A Letter from Our President
As we gather for this year's Equal Opportunity Day Gala, themed "An Evening in the Garden," your presence represents more than support — it reflects growth, renewal, and the power of community. Like a flourishing garden, the work of the Austin Area Urban League is rooted in care, strengthened through partnership, and sustained by those committed to creating opportunity for all.
Through our Pillars of Empowerment — Workforce & Career Development, Housing & Community Development, Education & Youth Development, Health & Wellness, and Justice & Advocacy — we are creating pathways to an improved quality of life rooted in hope, dignity, and economic mobility for individuals and families across our region.
As we proudly celebrate 49 years of service, we invite you to join us for the 49th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Gala on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to attend in formal attire as we honor the resilience and strength of the communities we serve across Central Texas.

About the League
Since 1977, the Austin Area Urban League has served thousands of underserved and marginalized Central Texans, helping them access the tools, training, and resources needed to live with dignity and opportunity.
We are proud to be an affiliate of the National Urban League, working to ensure economic self-reliance, parity, and civil rights for African Americans and other underrepresented communities.
Our mission: to equip marginalized communities with tools to build a foundation for social and economic equity.
Whitney M. Young Jr. Award
Given by boards of directors of Urban League affiliates nationwide in memory of the civil rights leader and former National Urban League head. Young worked tirelessly to expand access for African Americans to jobs, education, housing, health care, and social services.
During his ten-year tenure, he brought the League to the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement, launching programs like "Street Academy" and "New Thrust" to prepare students for college and equip local leaders to solve community problems.

Everyone deserves a safe, dignified place to call home. Through emergency repairs and crisis support, we ensure families in Central Texas can stay rooted and rise. Your sponsorship keeps the foundation strong.

Workforce & Career Development
We equip job seekers with tools for long-term success — resume support, occupational training, career placement, and financial literacy — creating pathways to economic independence.

Education & Youth Development
We empower young minds with mentorship, college readiness, career development, and life skills — nurturing tomorrow's leaders, from first-gen students to teens navigating challenges.

- 15 students through Project Ready GIRL
- 35 Black and Latinx women recruited for mentorship
Health & Wellness
Our holistic programs connect underserved communities with life-saving resources — housing, preventative care, wellness education, and more — moving us closer to health equity for all.

- 43 homes secured for unhoused individuals
- 30–40 residents secured ID & key documents
Justice & Advocacy
We educate, advocate, and activate. From voting access to community organizing, our Advocacy Pillar works to dismantle systemic barriers and ensure every voice is heard.
