Food/Meal Services Coordinator

Job Summary

The Food/Meal Services Coordinator is a highly motivated and organized individual with a passion and talentfor helping others. Food/meal services Coordinator helpsto train affiliate staff and volunteers in meal/food services community base response. In the activation planning and response, the FMSM may serve alongside a coalition community-based respondersto deliver direct services and identify appropriate strategies to assist in crisis food and meal service.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Research, plan, develop, produce, and serve menu cycle programs that are complaint with required nutritional/dietary criteria as required by local regulations and correctly prepares diets provided per policies procedures.
  • Responsible for hands-on, direct cooking, serving and dish washing as necessary.
  • Ensure professional, trained, properly uniformed, and talented staff.
  • Ability to prepare and serve a wide range of foods skillfully.
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations related to health and safety in food preparation.
  • Ability to instruct others in food preparation, service and sanitation tasks.
  • Ability to effectively work collaboratively other food service staff members, good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, to occasionally lift more than 50 pounds, and to spend long periods of time standing.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet.
  • Knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations regarding food practices and handling required.
  • Current Safe Food Coordinator certificate a plus.
  • Two years of progressive and relevant experience.
  • Must demonstrate successful employment in cooking for large groups (50+ people).
  • Experience in supervising and managing staff.
  • Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
  • Prepares menus and recipes preparation of food according to sanitation and quality standards.
  • Ensures the kitchen and food service areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner and assures compliance with the State sanitation code.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and all company policies.
  • Manages inventory and adheres to set budgets.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Successful completion of recognized food safety course.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as executive chef, chef in a hotel, restaurant, club, or other similar employment.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in administration and management of food service systems.
  • Ability to instruct others in food preparation, service and sanitation tasks.
  • Ability to effectively supervise other food service staff members; good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, to occasionally lift more than 50 pounds, and to spend long
    periods of time standing.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet.

  • Prefer two or more years experience in food service management.
  • Prefer experience in preparing special diets, including low sodium, low cholesterol, diabetic, and vegetarian.

Required Education

  • 1+ years of social or client service, team lead or supervisory experience.
  • Proficient use of computers to include Microsoft Office, internet, HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and other systems used for communicating, data collection, and reporting.

Other Qualifications / Duties

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • This position requires a criminal background investigation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

  • Repetitive activities such as talk, sit, stand, typing for extended periods of time.
  • Lift up to 30lbs.
  • Work environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Office and Community Based Work.
