Job Summary

The Crisis, Disaster, Emergency CSS is a highly motivated and organized individual with a passion and talent for helping others. Primarily, in the cold weather shelter activation planning and response, the CSS may serve alongside a coalition community-based responders to deliver direct services and identify appropriate strategies to assist participants in cold weather shelter services in crisis. During Blue Sky Periods, the CSS helps to train affiliate volunteers in CDE community base response. CSS utilize their knowledge of the community to establish appropriate relationships with vulnerable community members in need to provide cold weather shelter services.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Executes emergency shelter task in areas such as hazard mitigation, preparedness, disaster response, debris management, Crowd Control safety and security.
  • Monitor Client service area to ensure client delivery of support services.
  • Organizes CDE planning processes, which include individuals with disabilities and others with access issues, seniors and members of underserved communities, to fully engage constituents’ input; Leads the development of the community’s recovery visions, priorities, resources, capability and capacity.
  • Participate in all activities and duties related to CDE management during CDE response activation, serving as direct client services.
  • Outreach to vulnerable community members impacted by crisis/disaster/emergency.
  • Assess unmet CDE response needs with the client through point of contact interactions.
  • Participate in onsite and encampment health and well-being check-ins.
  • Keep accurate records of all client interaction cases in program database.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and prioritizes tasks to meet program goals in a high change, fast-paced environment.
  • Maintains ethical and professional standards and appropriate boundaries. Understands barriers and challenges that clients
    might be facing.

Required Education

  • Highschool diploma required
  • Bachelors’ Degree Preferred
  • 1+ years of social or client service, team lead or supervisory experience
  • Proficient use of computers to include Microsoft Office, internet, HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and other systems used for communicating, data collection, and reporting.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • This position requires a criminal background investigation.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and public environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role consistently performs manual labor via direct client services.

Working Conditions:

  • Repetitive activities such as talk, sit, stand, typing for extended periods of time Lift up to 30lbs.
  • Work environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Work with clients with different levels of direct service needs.
